Hatchery techniques were developed for the commercial production of seed of C. rivularis. Optimum larval growth required a temperature of 28.degree. C and a salinity of 20.permill.. The flesh of this species remains firm at summer temperatures in Oregon [USA] estuaries. The oyster may be marketable throughout the summer, and it use could increase overall oyster production in Oregon by as much as 35%.
