Recently a mycoplasma was isolated from the urethra of men with non-gonococcal urethritis which was considered to be distinct from other mycoplasmas and is provisionally namedMycoplasma genitalium. In the present study it was found that a strain of this mycoplasma was serologically closely related toM. pneumoniae. It also fermented glucose similarly, adhered to glass and plastic material during growth as doesM. pneumoniae, and showed similar motility and electron microscopic appearance. These observations indicate further studies of"M. genitalium"by cross-testing serologically withM. pneumoniaeto settle the taxonomic status of the new isolate.G. W. Csonka.
