A method for the mono-a-bromination ofdicarboxylic acids is described wherein excellent yields are obtained. The method has been applied to aryl and cycloalkyl acetic acids with good results. Under similar conditions, a-chlorination of these acids also can be obtained in good yields with sulfuryl chloride.
