The tensile and compressive yielding of cast Mg-Zn alloys, with varying grain sizes and compositions ranging from 0 to 2.3 at.% Zn, are simulated using a polycrystal plasticity model. The results are used to determine the grain size and composition dependences of the critical resolved shear stresses (CRSS) of basal slip and tensile twinning. (C) 2010 Acta Materialia Inc.
