Detailed and 13C NMR assignments were made to the sodium complexof boromycin (7) by using two-dimensional chemical shift correlation, NOE difference spectroscopy, and long-range heteronuclear shift correlation (LR-HETCOR). The latter technique was shown to provide a valuable means for assigning 13C signals, including the three carbonyl groups of 7, by establishing connectivities across quaternary carbons. Similar protocols were used for assigning! H NMR signals to the sodium derivativeof desvalinoboromycin (8). The results of NOE experiments on 7 are consistent with a solution conformation that approximates the tertiary structure of 2, as revealed by an X-ray crystalstructure.
