Disturbances of renal function are known to occur in hypothyroidism. Seven unselected patients with different forms of hypothyroidism underwent renal biopsy; the material was studied with light and electron microscopy. All patients showed uniform changes consisting of thickening of glomerular and tubular basement membranes and accumulation of various types of inclusions in the cell cytoplasm. In two patients re-biopsy after administration of thyroid hormones showed improvement in anatomical lesions.
