Examined the research literature on forensic patient conditional release using a combination of computer and manual methods. Demographic variable age, ethnicity, gender, and diagnosis were compared across 3 states: California, Oregon, and New York. Comparisons of violent vs nonviolent and felony vs misdemeanor offenses were made. Reoffenses were compared across states by determining the percentage of Ss rearrested during each state's respective conditional release follow-up period, then calculating an estimated annualized rate of rearrest. Close similarities across states were in population characteristics. Mean ages were all in the 30s. A difference was found in the mean length of hospitalization prior to conditional release. The outcome indicators are discussed.(PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2017 APA, all rights reserved)
