The article presents a study which investigated the long-term effects of therapy with nilvadipine on the cognitive function in patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to determine whether nilvadipine may delay clinical progression to Alzheimer's disease (AD). In this study, 15 amnestic MCI patients with essential hypertension were enrolled. Results showed that the nilvadipine group remained stable up to 20 months, whereas the amlodipine group tended to worsen. The study showed that nilvadipine may prevent cognitive decline of patients with MCI.
