The H reflexes of volunteers were examined before and during micturition, during abdominal contraction, during squeezing of the abdomen, and during reinforcement. Squeezing the abdomen had no effect on the amplitude of the H reflexes but abdominal contraction and reinforce-ment increased their amplitude. H reflexes temporarily increased in amplitude during micturition then decreased for at least 30 minutes. The nature and normal variation of the H reflex is discussed and reasons are advanced that the Y loop is involved in the decrease in reflex excitability of the central nervous system, produced by micturition.
