Acidification of reaction mixtures under a nitrogen atmosphere afforded, after extraction and washing, ethereal solutions of the corresponding trialkylbor-ane. The borane was then isolated directly by frac-tionation or converted by hydrogen peroxide oxida-tion to the corresponding alcohol. The experimental simplicity of the method was enhanced by the use of pyridine borane, an air stable and essentially non-volatile material which is easily prepared4 5in quan-tity if necessary but which is now commercially available. 6
