Single s/c injections of arachis oil depressed sensitivity slightly but significantly. Purification yielded a non-toxic fraction which, in a dose of 0.000006 mg. per kg. of body wt, depressed sensitivity to a degree comparable with that obtained with cortisone acetate in a dose of 5 mg./kg., which is maximally effective. The active substance appears to be an amine with about 10-14 carbon atoms. A rich source is vegetable lecithin, derived from groundnuts or soya beans. A similar, if not identical, substance is contained in egg-yolk. The bearing of this factor on the work of Coburnet al.(1954) on the anti-rheumatic properties of egg-yolk is discussed.
