The large-scale xeromorphic woodland-savanna-grassfield cerrado vegetation of central Brazil gradates to other vegetation types, within its own region and along the border to neighboring regions of other large-scale vegetation types. These other vegetation types and their distinctions from cerrado are discussed. The Amazonian and northern tropical American savannas and grasslands are also considered and should not be included in the cerrado concept.
