We constructed a crystal analyzer type inelastic scattering neutron spectrometer LAM-D at the KENS spallation thermal neutron source in the National Laboratory for High Energy Physics (KEK), Tsukuba, Japan. This spectrometer can cover the energy transfer range up to 300 meV with a resolution Δϵ E 1 of less than 6%. The basic principle of LAM-D is the same as the quasi-elastic scattering spectrometers LAM-40 and LAM-80 at KENS so that the combination of the three spectrometers is a very powerful tool for studies of molecular motions in condensed matters in the energy range of 1 μeV to 300 meV.
