Texture evolution has been studied in both parentβand transformedαphases during the hot compression of Ti60 alloy in both theα+β(1005 °C and 1035 °C) andβphase (1065 °C) fields, followed by air cooling using detailed electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) mapping. The reason for the development of the transformedαtextures is discussed in the paper. The formation of theαtexture was associated with the texture of parentβand variant selection duringβ→αtransformation. The effect of variant selection on the texture evolution was assessed by comparing the measuredαtextures with the predicted ones based on theβtexture with the assumption that no variant selection had occurred. The mechanism of variant selection effected by the slip system of theβphase and the high-temperature texture ofβ/αpare also discussed.
