Hysterectomy of 4 rhesus monkeys did not influence the length of postoperative ovarian cycles or the duration of the elevated peripheral plasma progesterone concentrations during the luteal phase of the cycle. These observations lead to the conclusion that, in the rhesus monkey, the uterus does not play a major role in the regulation of luteal function. (Endocrinology 84: 464, X969)
