An even more salient comparison might be with the Northern Isles, where a P-Celtic language (Pictish) was replaced by a Germanic one (Norse), leaving little trace of the earlier inhabitants and leading to a similar controversy surrounding their fate, with opinions divided between genocide and invisible survival. The volume is well produced, with a clear typeface, good-quality illustrations and a sturdy hardback cover. Like other EPNS publications, it represents good value for money.
