Villous adenomas are uncommon tumors of the gastrointestinal tract that occur most frequently in the colon. They comprise 1.5–2.5 per cent of all colonic neoplasms (1–3) and 2–14 per cent of the polypoid lesions of the large bowel (2, 4- 5). They are of special concern because of the reported 8–16 per cent incidence of invasive carcinoma (3, 6–8) and the 2.420 per cent association with other malignant tumors of the intestinal tract (1–2, 5- 7, 9–10). These villous tumors are of particular interest to the roentgenologist because of the possibility of a precise diagnosis on barium enema examination. Since the initial description of a particular radiographic appearance of these neoplasms in the colon (11), most attention has been directed to this “classical” pattern in the large bowel (12–18), with little comment on their atypical appearances. Villous adenomas are reportedly rare in the right half of the colon and occur distal to the peritoneal reflection in 78–98 per cent of cases (1, 5–6, 19). Only 15 inst...
