METHODS The experimental procedures conformed to the conventional pattern as reported in previous publications from this laboratory and in the preceding paper (Eccles, Kozak & Magni, 1961), which also may be referred to for the symbols corresponding to the various nerves (see this volume, p. 129). In some experiments the temperature of the animal was kept as low as 340 C, because larger EPSP depressions were observed under these conditions. The temperatures given in this paper were recorded by a thermometer inserted under the scapula and just outside the thoracic cage. Usually the temperature of the oil pool over the cord was 2 or 30 C cooler.
