Compounds containing hexachlorometallate ions of trivalent chromium, manganese, and iron havebeen prepared by stabilizing the anion in a crystal lattice with the tris-(l, 2-propanediamine)-cobalt (III) cation. The existence of the complex anions has been provedby isomorphism with salts of known hexachlorometallate (III) ions and the same cation, and by X-ray dataobtained from single crystals of [Co (C3Hi0N2) 3][FeCl «], Magnetic data showed that the ground state of these compounds is the expected high-spin state. Dg values of 1318, 1754 and 920 cm.-1 for [CrCle] 3-,[MnCl8] 3 “and [FeCl8] 3~, respectively, were determined from spectral data.
