The distribution of Zn2f or Ni2+ in ferrite spinels of ZnFe204 and NiFe204 and its temperature dependence up to I173K have been determined by applying the anomalous X-ray scattering (AXS) method near the Κ absorption edges of Zn, Ni and Fe. Measured intensity ratio with two energies close to the Zn and Fe edges for the present ZnFe204 sample can be quantitatively explained when all Zn2' are allocated to the tetrahedral position formed by four oxygens, suggesting that an almost perfectly normal state was maintained by the heat treatment up to II73K. On the other hand, the results for NiFe204 sample imply that Ni2* prefers the octahedral position formed by eight oxygens. The usefulness of this AXS method has been wellrecognized by obtaining the cation distribution in such ferrite systems with near neighboring elements in the periodic table.
