Many authors have stated that intelligence should be the main focus of comparative research, but even a few years ago we knew very little about the intelligence of nonhuman primates and we knew even less about species differences. We had access to many data on learning, delayed response, tool using in nonhuman primates but these data were not integrated in a comprehensive view of intelligence in man and animal (Bouchard and Mathieu 1976, Mathieu et al. 1980).
