This book on lysosomes is appearing in 1996, 30 years after the publication of the landmark review by Christian de Duve and Robert Wattiaux in theAnnual Review of Physiology. It so happened that I was visiting Dr. Wattiaux’s laboratory in Namur, Belgium, on the day the proofs of this review arrived in the mail. A vivid memory is his amusement that the key word in its title had been misspelledlusosomes.
