Self-compatibility and segregation for S-haplotype in progenies in Japanese plum (Prunus salicina Lindl.) cultivar 'Honey Rosa' (S b S g ), recently released from the National Institute of Fruit Tree Science, Japan, were investigated. The fruit set rate of five 'Honey Rosa' trees after self-pollination was 11.2% on average. This result confirmed that 'Honey Rosa' is self-compatible. The progenies of the self-pollination segregated into two S-haplotypes, S b S b and S b S g , suggesting that the S b -haplotype is responsible for self-compatibility. Expression analysis of S-RNase showed that the S b -RNase gene was transcribed in the style. Therefore, it appeared that inhibition of transcription of the S-RNase gene is not responsible for the self-compatibility in the S b -haplotype of 'Honey Rosa'.
