Revised Manuscript Received July 6, 1989 e basic reactions in photosynthesis involve the light-driven disruption of stable chemical bonds and transfer of the electrons in these bonds to form reactive intermediate species. Ultimately, the free energy trapped in this process is used by the organism to drive the synthesis of proteins, nucleic acids, and other complex biomolecules. Schematically, these events can be represented as low energy hu high energy spontaneous plant growth electrons-- electrons-> and (stable substrate)(reactive intermediates) biochemical reproduction reactions
