THE objectives of this study were to determine the concentration of specific trace elements in the blood of adult male residents of the United States, to measure the ranges of blood concentrations typical of the various trace elements, and to determine whether or not there were geographic differences in trace element concentrations in blood associated with geographic differences in trace element concentrations in plants. The elements studied were selected on the basis of established or suspected physiological effects, with special consideration being given to those elements where information on blood concentrations was limited.
