In vitro studies on the incorporation of nystatin powder into an acrylic based proprietary denture liner dispensed as a polymeric powder to which a liquid is subsequently added, showed the mixture to be effective against Candida. A pilot study on 13 patients with denture stomatitis showed that lining the dentures with the liner containing 800 000 units as the sole means of treatment was as effective as using the liner alone plus conventional oral nystatin therapy. The method is convenient to use and had no side effects.
