The factors influencing the vector population biology and structure and the malaria transmission pattern were assessed in a village of 700 inhabitants in Mali whereA. gambiaeMopti form predominates and malaria is hyperepidemic. Entomological and parasitological surveys were conducted during 2 weeks in October 1988 (end of the rainy season) and 2 weeks in April 1989 (dry season).A. gambiaes.s. andA. arabiensiswere both caught in dwellings andPlasmodium falciparum, P. ovaleandP. malariaewere all detected in the human population, withP. falciparumbeing predominant (90.7% of the infections in October, and 76.5% in April).
