JMP is a software package from SAS Institute Inc. for statistical visualization on the Apple Macintosh. 1 The version reviewed here is2. JMP comes on a IK floppy disk with manuals. In order to run JMP, one needs an Apple Macintosh with a hard disk, at least 2 MB of memory, and system 4.2 or higher. Installationof the program was simple and was completed without a problem. JMP Version 2 is claimed to be almost twice as large as Version 1 and includes more than a dozen new features. The program uses pull-down menus that can be used with a mouse. The menus contain eight standard Macintosh commands and other special JMP commands (File, Edit, Tables, Rows, Cols, Analyze, Tools, Windows) that perform file management or data analysis. Documentation. The manual is very good. JMP is supplied with the JMP Introductory Guide of v+ 138 pagesand the JMP User’s Guide of vi+ 584 pages. 2 The Introductory Guide provides nine tutorials, which are clearly described with many figures.
