With the silver staining method described black, threadlike structures usually forming a peripheral ring were seen in epithelial cells of the choroid plexus from 17 senile brains, i.e., from subjects more than 60 yrs., and also in the brains from 1 oligophrenic patient of 56 yrs. and 1 case of tuberculous meningitis of 43 yrs., but not in brains from young normal persons. Abundant fibers, often forming small rings unrelated to the preceding, often tortuous and coiled into balls, were found in the ependyma and in the subependymal tissue. The structures in the plexus cells are attributed to a process essentially similar to that giving rise to Alzheimer''s fibrils.
