Marine organisms off the coast of southern California were analyzed for Mn/sup 54/ and Zn/sup 65/. The results indicate that certain dinoflagellates and other organisms from the same coastal waters can concentrate Mn/sup 56/ several thousand fold. Mussels and barnacles appear to concentrate Mn/sup 54/ more than Zn/sup 65/, whereas the fish do the opposite. Surface fish contain distinctly more of both metals than do the deepliving hagfish. It was also evident that some surface fish can concentrate Zn/sup 65/ by three orders of magnitude. Data are tabulated. (P.C.H.)
