The author has succeeded in his intent to combine the anatomic description of the nervous system with neurophysiologic concepts and to correlate these facets with clinical neurology. The work in its entirety is concise and well written. The text is fully illustrated with a combination of diagrams, drawings and photographs of stained sections of the nervous system. The photographs present the advantage of demonstrating the appearance of structures of the nervous system as seen in the laboratory, but have the drawback of being unable to delineate some of the fainter structures with the accented clarity available in drawings. In some instances, this defect is remedied by supplementing the photographs with drawings.
