It is a characteristic property of intransitive verbs that they do not take any overt complements. As far as their selectional or subcategorisation properties are concerned, they are usually described as "single-argument" verbs, or oneplace predicates. While intransitive verbs of the unaccusative type have a complement at D-Structure (cf. (1a)), which needs to raise to structural subject position because it is not Case-licensed by the verb (Burzio 1986), intransitive verbs of the unergative type are traditionally considered to be "Agent-only" verbs that is, they do not select an internal argument at all (cf. (1b)).
