The organism was readily detected in cultures and in freshly harvested and freeze-dried seeds collected from citrus trees with stubborn disease in Jan. and Apr. Positive reactions with extracts of leaf mid-veins were obtained only from young leaves collected in July. The speed and sensitivity with which spiroplasma can be detected by ELISA should greatly facilitate field surveys and epidemiological investigations for S. citri and other similar organisms for which suitable antisera are available.
