—We propose a gate-passing detection method based on WiFi signal strength and the accelerometers of user smart-phones. Since doors divide such physical areas as rooms and hallways, the WiFi environments tend to greatly vary. A gate should exist when the points in the WiFi environments vary on a large scale. We define such points as WiFi significant points and propose a detection method based on a WiFi distance function and estimated moving distance according to an accelerometer. We evaluated our proposed method and found out that most door passings can be detected. We also found that we can estimate the existence of doors that have identical door passings with a high degree of accuracy.
