Energy economics and policy literatures have emerged impressively in recent years, and most of them are empirical studies or policy simulations. The original data used in these literatures are mainly sourced from macro statistical documents or online databases released by government departments or international organizations. Some of Current researches misuse the basic data, which results in some of the conclusions are partial. In order to reduce the possibility of data abusing or misusing, and enhance the transparency of research process and the comparability of findings, this paper discusses the data issues in energy economics and policy research.Different data sources have different data coverage. The energy data are usually not consistent with or do not match with the economic data, though both of them are sourced from government statistical department. The data coverage and aggregation methods sourced form domestic and international are also different. If we ignore these differences,it is unacceptable to compare their volume directly, which even result in non-scientific controversies.
