Investigation of the mycelial extract of A. mellea led to the isolation of the known melleolide and 2 new sesquiterpene aryl esters, 4-O-methylmelleolide and judeol. Their structures were deduced from spectral data and that of 4-o-methylmelleolide confirmed by X-ray analysis. The new esters showed strong antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria.
