This review will aim to cover work on the possible neurological and behavioural effects of exposure to low levels of environmental lead which has been reported in the past 7 years. The review will be from a scientific viewpoint, thus it will not tackle the difficult problem of the policy implications which are attached to the findings, but will try to evaluate from a methodological and design viewpoint what is known as a result of the research carried out so far, and what we now need to know. The document is intended both as a description of the state of art, and as a guide to aid the interpretation and utilization of the results of existing research.
