Even a simple and small movement of a part of the body is a component of a complex pattern of muscular activity, which involves not only muscles directly producing the observed movement but also other muscles often remotely located from the moving part. This latter group is responsible for the postural component of the motor act. In this article we will examine how these two components of motor acts, i.e. movements and their associated postural adjustment are co-ordinated.
