In the spring, adult beetles (Epitrix parvula) were found feeding on 13 hosts in Pittsylvania Co., Virginia; during the growing season, they occurred principally on tobacco; and in the late summer and early fall 52 host plants were recorded. Solanaceous plants were the most important hosts, and E. p. was reared on all the Solanaceous plants tested, but not on 16 spp. of plants representing 10 other families. The beetles developed most readily on tobacco, potato, and Datura stramonium. Tobacco plants in the bed and potato in the field were important in building up the flea-beetle population in nearby fields in the spring before the tobacco plants were set in the field.
