The Standard Language Test of Aphasia (SLTA) is a test battery for aphasia in the Japanese language. It was established after extensive studies performed to select test items and confirm reliability during the peн riod from 1965 to 1974 [Nirayama Conferн ence. 1975], It is composed of a total of 26 tests for several language modalities, and each test includes several items to be anн swered by the subjects. Test records are usually presented by a graphic profile of the rates of correct answers to the items included in each test. Although the profile is now widely applied in the management of aphasie patients in Japan, it shows only the separate results of the 26 tests and is not sufficient for overall assessment of each patient. If inforн mation from the 26 tests were summarized in a simpler scale, such a scale would be more useful for assessment and rehabilitation proн grams.
