Discusses research centred on the dynamics of urban spatial structure, which has been in progress since 1976. The main techniques deployed are based on spatial interaction modelling and associated methods of dynamical systems theory, and micro- simulation modelling. Their use in model-building is shown in relation to a wide range of sub-systems, including agriculture, industrial location, retailing, residential location and housing, health and education.-Authors
