Near the cciling level, ie the highest level reached by nuid of the jet, jet fluid leaves the upflow region and entcrs the downflow region. Thus near the ceiling level the vertical flux ofjet fluid and the vertical flux of a tracer carried by the jet decrease with height. Neverthele· s previously published theoretical solutions to determine the coordinate of the ceiling level (PRIESTLEY and BALL r11 and MORTON 12J [3J) arc based on the assumption that the vertical nux of a tracer being contained in the jet is constant from the orifice to the ceiling level. This assumption leads to either an infinite concentration of the tracer or an infinite width of the jet at the ceiling level. Both these solutions are not realistic.
