To the Editor.— A number of communications have appeared in these columns regarding the role of pyridoxine in patients with Parkinson's disease treated with levodopa. Our initial observation 1 that the ingestion of pyridoxine nullifies the beneficial effects of levodopa on the symptoms of parkinsonism has been confirmed by Cotzias and Jameson 2,3 However, we have been unable to find that the normal dietary intake of pyridoxine interfers with levodopa nor have we found clinical or laboratory evidence to support the fears expressed by some 4,5 that the long-term administration of this agent may induce a pyridoxine deficiency state. In our continuing investigations to improve the therapeutic value of levodopa, until recent date, we have found little use for pyridoxine.
