The u.-v. inactivation of lysozyme conformed to a 1st order reaction. The quantum yield for inactivation at 2537 A was 0.024 at pH range of 3.6-12.0. The inactivation was accompanied by photooxidation and other secondary processes, with no apparent liberation of free amino acids or peptides. A rapid and reproducible method for measuring lysozyme activity, based on the degree of the digestion of Micrococcus lvsodeikticus cells in a Beckman spectrophotometer was descr.
