One approach to the assessment of the interaction of cocaine with these monoamine neuronal systems is the use of both extracellular and intracellular single unit recording techniques. The recent findings obtained with these electrophysiological approaches are the focus of this article. These investigations have been carried out using in-vivo and in-vitro rodent preparations.
