Methods for thermal calibration of aerial and satellite imaging systems over land masses is discussed. The emphasis will be on sources of error in the calibration process and consideration of how well temperature can be measured using remote imaging systems. The treatment will include consideration of upwelled and downwelled radiance terms, atmospheric transmission and target emissivity.<<ETX>>
