In this article we examine the equations of state for the thermoelaslic response of solids, which are capable of undergoing large elastic deformations. In particular, we derive the stress-deformation-temperature relations for the homogeneous pure strain of an isotropic body at uniform temperature. These are applied to the modeling of the thermomechanics of rubberlike solids with particular reference to the uniaxial stress test. Observed thermoelaslic effects in rubber are discussed, and it is shown how these can be predicted by selecting suitable forms of free-energy function.
