A preparation of human .alpha.-thrombin previously reported to release kinin from human high MW kininogen was contaminated with small amounts of plasminogen and plasmin which were probably responsible for kinin release. Inhibitors of plasmin which did not inhibit thrombin clotting activity blocked kinin release and removal of plasminogen from the thrombin depleted the preparation of kinin-releasing activity.
