The frequency of the 3 types of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) isozymes in wild and purebred pigeons followed the expected distribution calculated according to the Hardy-Weinberg law for a single pair of alleles. It appears that the synthesis of LDH in pigeon testes is under the control of 3 genetic loci:A, B, andC.At theClocus, 3 genotypes are possible:CC,CC', andC'C'.The electrophoretic mobility of the isozymes containingBpolypeptides was reduced in tissues from some of the pigeons. Besults of reassociation experiments and studies on the distribution of the variant in 2 pigeon populations suggest that the variant patterns are produced by a mutation at theBlocus.-From summ.
