A reconstruction of the complete insect Hagla contorta RiEK, 1974 from the Molteno Formation is based on new specimens of isolated wings and a possible juvenile instar (nymph or subimago) of a female. The Lower Jurassic Hagla gracilis GIEBEL, 1856 (type species) as well as the two recent Prophalangopsidae [Pro-phalangopsis obscura WALKER, 1914 and Cyphoderris buckelli HEBARD, 1933] have also been taken into consideration for the reconstruction. Hagla contorta thus becomes the best known species of the genus. Prophalangopsidae + Haglidae are regarded as adelphotaxon of the monophyletic Tettigonioidea. The geological setting is briefly discussed.
